With the sun beating down on us, and the spectacular views of the Sugarloaf mountain overlooking us, it was hard to concentrate on the golf during the 15th annual Spagnolli Bazzoni Onlus Golf Tournament!
On Thursday 2nd June, 16 teams accepted the challenge of playing the east course in Powerscourt Golf Club. The weather was spectacular, which was as always, guaranteed to us by Roberto Bazzoni.
The scores this year were very impressive, and very tight, with a tie breaker deciding the fate of our most sought after first place. With 82 points, the Pioneer Investments team of Rob Richardson, Billy O’Riordan, Hugh Prendergast and Wouter Meijer took the prize. Pioneer Investments (on behalf of the PwC team) took the second place on the podium, with Rupert Fuller, Derek Arnold and Adrian Kelly and third place went to our returning Deloitte team, with John McCarroll, Eimear McCarthy and David Wheatley.
With just two ladies in the tournament again this year, it was a tough battle for best lady, with Pioneer Investments’ Liesel Hall winning the prize for the second year running. The longest drive went to Ian Murray for Pioneer Investments and the nearest to pin was won by Lorcan Connolly for Bloomberg. Congratulations to all the winners.
Once the golf was over, the most important part of the evening started: the auction and raffle. This is where everyone dug deep and gave so generously to the charity. The auction proved very exciting with some ruthless bidding for our top prizes; most notable was John Burns who ended up bidding against himself for the trip to Milan! We would like to thank all those who entered a bid on the auction items and who bought raffle tickets.
We are delighted to confirm that, thanks to your support, we raised in excess of €26,000 and have achieved our target to purchase the new ambulance for the Orussi Health Centre in Uganda!
This is wonderful news, and will make a significant difference to the patients of the health centre. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generous support. This year, we welcomed new and old faces to the tournament and we are always pleasantly surprised at your kindness and generosity. A special thank you goes to our Gold Sponsor Pioneer Investments, whose unwavering support is invaluable.
A particular thanks must go to all the companies and supporters who generously donated the fantastic prizes, and to our generous supporters of all of the drinks, and food that keep our players going throughout the day. Your support helps to make this event such a superb success year on year.
We sincerely hope you enjoyed the day!
